I-40: The Ultimate Cross-Country Roadtrip Experience

July 2010
It's official: for 3 full weeks of roadtrip bliss, my husband and I will make our 7th cross-country roadtrip together, traveling up out of the deep, kudzu-covered south, across the flatlands of Texas, through the painted New Mexico desert, over the Rio Grande, into the alpine foothills of central Arizona, out into the barren Mojave Desert and down into the concrete jungle of Los Angeles, CA.

We will wiggle our toes in the Pacific Coast sand after strolling down Santa Monica Pier only to turn around and do it all again. Of course, there will be blissful Bed & Breakfast stops, layovers with family and friends along the way, picnics and gourmet extravaganzas, breathtaking hikes and endless hours to talk, read, breath, unwind and enjoy God's beautiful creation. It's the challenge of seeking a destination without missing anything along the way that I love the most.

We have traveled I-40 before; it is an amazing masterpiece of history, convenience, and adventure. That's why this year, I'm doing something different. I wanted to create a manual, a journal of personal discoveries and favorite moments, to share with other cross-country travelers. Who doesn't love a good story about an amazing roadtrip experience?

Maybe it will inspire others to travel, maybe it will just provide a vicarious journey for someone who isn't able to get away at this time. I look forward to sharing the moments that make this trip memorable!
